Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Todd Collins, who during this calendar year will turn 40 years old, is still chasing a Super Bowl ring.
Collins, who was drafted by the Bills in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft out of Michigan, currently serves as the Bears’ backup quarterback behind Jay Cutler. The veteran appeared in two games this season, including one start, and completed 10 of 27 throws for 68 yards, with five interceptions, for a quarterback rating of 5.9.
This is the third playoff team that Collins has been a part of in his 16-year NFL career, and by far his best shot at a championship. In 2003, Collins was a reserve on a 13-3 Kansas City Chiefs team that, as the AFC’s top seed, was upset by Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium in the divisional round. Just four years ago, in 2007, Collins sparked the Washington Redskins to a 9-7 record and a playoff berth, but the ‘Skins bowed out in the Wild Card round, dropping a 35-14 decision to the Seattle Seahawks.
As far as we are aware, Collins is one of just four players still employed by NFL teams that emerged from the 1995 NFL Draft. Kerry Collins might be the Tennessee Titans’ starting quarterback next season. Joey Galloway was waived by the Washington Redskins this past November, and Jason Kyle – a long snapper – was signed by the New Orleans Saints in the same time frame
