The very talented Joan Rivers was supposed to be on the Fox News morning show with her daughter Melissa, but for some reason the spot got cancelled. Fox says it was a scheduling thing but Joan says that she is willing to take a lie detector test to prove that she and Meliisa were ditched from the morning show because Joan had been very critical of Sarah Palin — saying that Palin was responsible for the shooting in Tucson last week. Joan also called Palin stupid and a threat — Joan, who is supposed to be a Phi Beta Kappa also made reference to the “blood libel” controversy — even though a smart woman like Joan, a woman who in her stand-up act makes jokes about 9-11 widows, should know that “blood libel” is part of the English lexicon and does not carry the heavy anti- Jewish meaning that it used to.
Joan: You have been through far more than anyone involved with the “Faux” News Network (NetJerk?)except maybe the owners and power-brokers involved in keeping their brand of speech. They think they are sly or smart, but they are “smart” like a slap across the face to their audience. They approve of using inflammatory terms, without knowing the meaning of the terms. The last time I heard the term “blood-libel” was in my high-school history class. You have my support to say what you mean and what you want. I just wish you did not feel the need to lower your linguistic level to below theirs. Maybe the late Earl Wilson’s comment implying the same actions may apply, “Perform an impossible and obscene act.” You are an icon to the last of the generation of Bob Hope, Joey Bishop, Alan King, Sam Levinson, and others of a particular social background. Lord how I miss Julius Marx and his brothers. Or to borrow a cliche, “YOU GO GIRL!”
