The “baby elephant who needs your help and is struggling to survive” pic is a hoax. Yes, it’s a real elephant but it’s a photo of an unfortunate early miscarriage — and spreading the picture around on Facebook is an unfortunate miscarriage of intelligence.

The way I look at this whole story is that if there are morons who can spread false information about an elephant fetus, there must be an equal amount of intelligent people who can spread my story about the truth. I will say that he did come off a little harsh but I totally agree with him in this matter. I am no animal expert but he is right that the average newborn elephant is huge and would not fit in your hands… I think we all value the right to express ourselves through speech because it is our right. I don’t think I am smarter than anyone. I don’t think that at all. When I don’t know something, instead of just passing on information about what I DO NOT know, I ask people who do. That makes me “sensible.” Maybe it’s a sign of intelligence but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have a heart or that I think I am smarter than anyone. It’s because I don’t like to see people do foolish things that I try to educate people — I don’t like to see hurtful things. Passing along a picture of a dead elephant fetus and thereby giving some caring person the false thought and hope that it will live, is hurtful . Hey thanks for the info but not for the attitude. I’m sure in your mind it has to be delivered that way, but it’s a lame excuse. Not everyone knows about the size of an elephant fetus, an elephant’s gestation period or anything about elephants except for simple common knowledge. If there are any flaws in this hoax it’d be this boastful post that looks down on people that (despite being gullible) actually have an ounce of empathy.
